Community Advisory Board

The Community Advisory Board (CAB) works collaboratively with the UHAND team and provides support to their training, outreach, and research activities, as well as guides the dissemination of project findings for community benefit. Members of the CAB are prominent community leaders across a range of sectors in the greater Houston area and are deeply rooted in Houston’s faith-based, health, social service, education, and business communities.

Beverly Gor 

Beverly Gor, EdD, is Staff Analyst at the Houston Health Department and serves as Chair of the UHAND Community Advisory Board.

Gwendolyn Johnson

Gwendolyn Johnson, RN, is Manager of Health and Medical Services at Houston Independent School District.

Tony Dale

Tony Dale is Recreational Supervisor for the Harris County Parks Department.

Lisa Helfman

Lisa Helfmen, JD, is Director of Real Estate at H-E-B Grocers. Prior to joining H-E-B, Lisa served as Director of Real Estate Services at Texas Children’s Hospital where she created the Real Estate Services Department in order to centralize the hospital’s real estate operations.

Marlen Trujillo

Marlen Trujillo, PhD, MBA, is Chief Executive Officer of Spring Branch Community Health Center. She oversees the overall operations of the health center and maintains compliance with grant deliverables and is responsible for the supervision and administration of all staff and functions.

Karen Jackson

Karen Jackson is Founder/CEO of Sisters Network Inc., the nation’s only African American breast cancer survivorship organization. Jackson leads Sisters Network’s nationwide effort to focus the spotlight on increasing breast cancer awareness in the African American community.

Reverend Francene Young

Rev. Francene Young is the current Vicar at St. Luke the Evangelist. While working as a Vice President of Talent, Development and Diversity for a global energy company, she attended the Episcopal Diocese of Texas' Iona School for Ministry. After successfully completing the three-year program, Francene was ordained a Transitional Deacon in 2011 and a Priest in January 2012.

Elia Chino

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of FLAS, Inc. (Fundación Latinoamericana de Acción Social, Inc.)  Ms. Chino works tirelessly to educate people about preventable diseases, behavioral health and mental illness. Ms. Chino is also a former member of the City of Houston’s Community Planning Group (CPG) and the former chair of the City’s Latino HIV Task Force.  In 2016 was nominated by the federal government of México and received the award "Premio Revolución", and in the same year, she also received the “Jefferson Foundation Award” in recognition of her outstanding public service.
